He made his debut on the stage at the age of ten in Baikonur. In 2005 he became a student at the Variety Circus College. On February 25, 2008 at the Palace of the Republic. On August 31, 2013, Kairat Nurtas' performance in Almaty at a free concert in the «Prime Plaza» shopping center ended in large-scale riots. When the singer appeared on stage, the audience broke through several security cordons and practically reached the stage, as a result of which Nurtas stopped performing. After this, a mass brawl began with the destruction of equipment, arson of a police patrol car, damage to fire trucks and causing bodily harm to 16 citizens. Police were also injured. Of the approximately two thousand spectators, 165 people were detained, and a criminal case was opened against the management of «Prime Plaza», since the shopping center site did not meet safety requirements for holding concerts. The damage caused to the shopping and entertainment center is estimated at 30 million tenge. Three weeks after the incident, Kairat Nurtas met with the akim of Almaty Akhmetzhan Yesimov and apologized to him for the events that took place.

At the end of 2013, Kairat Nurtas topped the ranking of the most popular stars in Kazakh show business according to «Forbes-Kazakhstan» and the MuzZone TV channel; his income over the past year was estimated at $2.04 million, which is almost a third higher than that of boxer Gennady Golovkin, who took second place.

In 2014, Kairat Nurtas took second place in the «TOP 25 ranking of Kazakhstani show business and sports» magazine «Forbes-Kazakhstan».
